Wenceslao Vinzons

The town’s name, Vinzons, pays homage to Wenceslao Q. Vinzons, a prominent figure in Philippine history. Vinzons, the youngest delegate to the 1934 Philippine Constitutional Convention, was a courageous guerrilla leader martyred by the Japanese during World War II. His legacy lives on, etched in the town’s identity and spirit.

One of Vinzons’ prized possessions is the Calaguas Group of Islands, a picturesque paradise under its jurisdiction, drawing tourists with its pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. Apart from this, tourism experience in Vinzons comes with a view of the 412-year old limestone museum

church restored in the 15th century setting, and the Wenceslao Q. Vinzons National Historical Landmark known to be the family house of the martyred hero.

Despite its historical significance and natural beauty, Vinzons faces challenges in fully harnessing its tourism potential and preserving its cultural heritage. Limited resources and infrastructure hinder the municipality from maximizing its allure and economic opportunities.

In light of these challenges, the Philippine Global Explorers project aims to ignite a renaissance of cultural appreciation and tourism development in Vinzons. Through the Local Heritage and Cultural Awareness Seminar, the project endeavors to achieve several key objectives:

  • Mapping Cultural Activities: Identifying and highlighting Vinzons’ cultural treasures and creative industries.
  • Government Policy Updates: Providing insights into government policies and programs for cultural mapping and creative industries.
  • Promoting Domestic Tourism: Showcasing the town’s culture and heritage as a catalyst for economic recovery and development.
  • Capacity Building: Equipping the LGU with technical skills to enhance creative industries and heritage-related activities.
  • Building Partnerships: Strengthening linkages to support and promote Vinzons’ competitive advantages in culture, heritage, and tourism.
  • Economic Lever: Positioning Vinzons’ heritage and culture as drivers of economic revitalization and sustainable development.
  • Targeting all 19 barangays, the initiative includes an organized 2-day municipality-wide seminar with speakers from the Regional DOT, Academe, Heritage NGOs, PGE Members and Department of Education; improving facilities at the Vinzons Heritage Education Museum, and enhancing the Vinzons Poblacion Heritage Tour packages. This project is part of this year’s 5th Founding Anniversary celebrations which will be held on 27th of July at the Heroes Hotel, Manila.
