Grounded in heritage and guided by curiosity, Rachel Bomogao Obo-ob represents a new generation of Filipino travellers whose journeys are shaped as much by identity as by discovery. Recognised by Philippine Global Explorers through the Philippine Travel Masters Awards, Rachel’s story reflects a thoughtful, culture-forward approach to exploring the Philippines—one rooted in respect, immersion, and pride in place.

From Sagada to the Nation’s Many Landscapes

Rachel is a proud, full-blooded Igorota from Sagada, Mountain Province. Travel, for her, is not an escape but an extension of who she is—an ongoing act of wandering and learning. While she had already visited six provinces as a student, her focused journey to complete all Philippine provinces began in May 2023 and concluded in May 2025, spanning a three-year period of purposeful exploration.

Inspiration Found in Beauty—and Intention

The spark that shaped her goal came in Batanes. Overwhelmed by its quiet beauty and sweeping landscapes, Rachel felt compelled to seek out places across the country that carried similar character and calm. What began as admiration evolved into intention: to travel with purpose and to understand the Philippines through its varied terrains, communities, and traditions. From there, the goal became clear—visit all 82 provinces with care and curiosity.

A Favourite Shaped by Culture: Lake Sebu, South Cotabato

Among the many places she encountered, South Cotabato—specifically Lake Sebu—holds a special place. It was the warmth of the T’boli people that left a lasting impression. Being invited to wear traditional attire and dance alongside the community transformed the visit from observation to belonging. Their generosity and hospitality resonated so deeply that Rachel returned not once, but twice—drawn back by connection rather than checklist.

A Moment That Endures: Batad and Tappiyah Falls

One of Rachel’s most memorable experiences unfolded in Batad, Ifugao, within the Banaue Rice Terraces. After taking in the iconic views, she trekked down toward Tappiyah Falls—a demanding descent marked by countless steps and moments of doubt. The challenge, however, gave way to reward. Immersed in the cool, fresh waters at the base of the falls, exhaustion dissolved into relief and joy. It is an experience she recommends wholeheartedly: demanding, humbling, and deeply fulfilling.
