In a remarkable display of camaraderie and commitment, the Philippine Global Explorers (PGE) celebrated its Second Annual Grand Meet Up (AGM) on December 10, 2023. Known as the world’s largest national travel community, PGE’s event epitomized the spirit of exploration and positive impact that defines the organization.
Under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Riza Rasco, Chairman and President of PGE, the organization has grown significantly. Dr. Rasco, a seasoned traveler with visits to 192 out of 193 UN countries, embodies PGE’s ethos of using travel experiences to give back to the Philippines. This ethos is central to the organization’s mission, fostering a community where well-traveled Filipinos contribute positively to their homeland.
The year 2023 marked a series of significant achievements for PGE. Among these was Project Sulu, a collaboration with the local government and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, which aimed to promote Sulu and Tawi-Tawi as tourist destinations. This initiative saw the participation of foreign travelers from the Extreme Traveler International Congress (ETIC) and Most Traveled People (MTP), putting a spotlight on the region’s beauty and culture. Further raising awareness, PGE member and Travel Influencer of the Year, YouTuber Francis Candia, captured the essence of Sulu in his engaging Vlogs.
Another cornerstone project was Lakbay Aral sa Baguio, celebrating PGE’s 4th founding anniversary. In collaboration with Purple Community Fund and Upskills Foundation, this initiative provided ten students from Tondo and Navotas a unique opportunity to explore the culture and history of Baguio’s Cordillera Mountain region. This transformative experience not only educated but also inspired the students, showcasing PGE’s dedication to community and education.
The AGM was also a platform to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to travel and exploration. Odette Ricasa, the first Filipino to visit all 193 UN countries, was awarded PGE’s Most Inspiring Traveler for 2023, exemplifying the spirit of global exploration. Digital Nomad Alfred Millar, who has visited over 100 countries, shared his experiences of working while traveling, igniting curiosity and ambition among the attendees.
Luisa Yu, the second Filipino to reach all 193 UN countries, was virtually recognized with PGE’s Most Progressive Wanderer and Most Impactful Globetrotter awards for 2023. These acknowledgments highlight the diverse and extraordinary achievements of PGE members.
PGE’s reach extends globally, with nearly 1200 members who have explored at least 20 countries. The organization prides itself on its worldwide network, including community coordinators across the Philippines, the US, Greenland, Africa, Europe, Asia – Middle East, Oceania, and Australia.
Looking ahead to 2024, PGE is brimming with optimism and anticipation for new projects and opportunities to make meaningful contributions to the Philippines. The organization encourages travel enthusiasts to become official members, offering an array of perks and a chance to be part of a vibrant community dedicated to exploration and positive impact. Joining PGE is not just about exploring the world; it’s about being part of a movement that uses travel as a force for good, connecting cultures, and inspiring change.
In conclusion, the Philippine Global Explorers is not just a travel community; it’s a beacon of inspiration and action. Its members are not just travelers; they are ambassadors of change, culture, and community. As PGE continues to grow and impact the world, it invites others to join its journey, to explore, learn, and contribute to a better world.
