The Philippine Global Explorers (PGE) has launched the PGE Lanao: Mountain Islamic School Library Project, a community initiative that aims to establish a library for Maahad Al-Aziziah Al-Arabie Al-Islamie, Inc., a remote Islamic school in Barangay Sandab Madaya, Municipality of Butig, Lanao del Sur, within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The project is led by PGE member Tadz, who combines his interest in mountain climbing with a commitment to supporting remote communities in Mindanao. Through his visits to the region, he recognised an opportunity to help improve access to educational resources for local students by establishing a school library.
The project reflects the Philippine Global Explorers’ commitment to using travel as a platform for community service. As a non-profit organisation, PGE encourages its members to apply their experiences, skills, and personal interests to initiatives that contribute to education, cultural preservation, and community development across the Philippines.

Expanding Access to Learning
Many schools in remote mountain communities continue to operate with limited access to books and supplementary learning materials. While students receive formal education, opportunities to develop reading skills beyond the classroom are often restricted due to the absence of library facilities.
The PGE Lanao Project seeks to address this need by creating a functional library that will provide students with access to a wider range of educational resources and support literacy for years to come.
In addition to books, the project will provide basic library equipment, school supplies, and backpacks for students.
Fundraising Goal
PGE aims to raise ₱100,000 to support the establishment of the library and provide essential learning resources for the school.
Funds raised will help provide:
- Children’s books and educational reference materials
- Books covering literacy, science, mathematics, languages, arts, and general knowledge
- Library shelves and basic equipment
- School supplies
- Backpacks for students
- Transportation and logistics for delivering donations to the remote mountain community
